Presque Isle firefighters discovered two dead bodies while fighting a fire just off of Baer Road Tuesday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, the dispatch center received a call at 12:43 p.m. Tuesday reporting the fire.
The press release states the Presque Isle fire department and firefighters from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) were able to extinguish the flames.
The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office was asked to respond to the fire scene by the Presque Isle fire department after two victims were found near the location of the fire.
The initial investigation showed power lines were down in the area of the fire and the victims were found in that immediate location.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deaths “don’t appear to be suspicious in nature but rather accidental.”
The press release goes on to say the cause of the deaths and fire are still under investigation by the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, Vilas County Medical Examiner’s Office and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Fire Services.
As of press time Wednesday, the names of the victims hadn’t been released.
